My Great Uncle and Aunt were Salvationists Edward Hanagan and his wife Edith. They drowned, but their little daughter, Grace, was saved. I grew up calling Grace my Aunt Grace, even though she was my second cousin. I never knew until now, after reading your post, that their bodies were identified. Does that mean their bodies were recovered and given a proper burial? I'm writing a short memoir about my family to leave to my nieces and nephew so they'll know who their ancestors were and I'm including the night the Empress sank. --- Dennis Hanagan
ReplyDeleteHi Dennis. While their names are in a number of lists of those Salvationists who were on board I can't find any reference to their bodies being recovered. As far as I can ascertain 22 of their bodies were recovered and interred in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
