Christmas 1918

'Neath the shining of the Star,
Peace hath broken her treasure jar,
Spread her gracious gifts afar.

From the darkness comes the morn,
Out of suffering life is born,
Born anew this Christmas morn.

Newer sweeter wonders rest,
In the Child on Mary's breast,
And again the world is blest.

"Peace on earth" the age-old word,
Fathered by the broken sword,
And the promise of the Lord.
     Emmanuel
